On the afternoon of March 11, 2025, a delegation from the School of Foreign Studies at Chang’an University, led by Dr. Zhao Bin, the head of the English Department, visited our school for research and exchange. The focus of this visit was on topics such as talent development in the English and Japanese programs, training of graduate students in foreign language and literature, and reform of university English teaching in the context of integrated undergraduate and graduate programs. The visit aimed to strengthen academic exchange between the two schools, deepen construction of foreign language disciplines, and promote innovation in high-level talent cultivation models.
Dean Cao Ruonan first extended a warm welcome to the visitors and introduced the participants from our school. She introduced in detail the school’s overall situation, including enrollment of undergraduate and graduate students (both academic and professional master’s programs) in English and Japanese. She also discussed the functions and teaching systems of the Department of College English and the Comprehensive Language Department. She emphasized the school’s current transformation and development strategy in the field of country and region studies, with the goal of enhancing the discipline’s influence and improving the quality of talent cultivation through interdisciplinary integration.
Next, Professor Zhao Bin introduced the School of Foreign Studies at Chang’an University. He focused on the enrollment for English and Japanese undergraduate students, teacher recruitment, and talent development plan, offering detailed explanations on these topics. He specifically introduced the academic development model of the School of Foreign Studies, which is guided by horizontal research projects, and emphasized that the school encourages faculty members to strengthen their research output. The school has also implemented corresponding policy incentives to promote the transformation and application of academic achievements.
During the themed discussion on discipline development and talent cultivation, Associate Dean Li Ming and Director Zhao Bin engaged in an in-depth exchange regarding the talent development plans for the English and Japanese programs. The two sides addressed various aspects, including optimizing the curriculum system, innovating teaching models, and designing practical teaching components. They also shared experiences on how to cultivate foreign language talent with international competitiveness in the context of the new era.
Finally, both sides formed small groups to engage in in-depth discussions on topics such as university English teaching reform, the graduate training model for foreign language and literature, and the Japanese language curriculum system. The participating teachers shared their teaching experiences and practices, discussing how to further improve teaching quality, strengthen curriculum development, and optimize the allocation of teaching resources.
This exchange and research further promoted the deep cooperation between Northwest University and Chang’an University in fields of foreign language discipline development, talent cultivation, and teaching reform. In the future, both sides will continue to strengthen communication and exchange, share high-quality educational resources, and jointly promote the high-quality development of foreign language and literature disciplines, laying a solid foundation for cultivating foreign language talents with international vision and exceptional professional abilities.
